Who owns the sewer line in Libby? You do, all the way to the street

Trench dug across a yard to reach a sewer line

In Libby, the homeowner owns the sewer line from the city main in the street to the house. If it clogs or backs up, fixing it is on you, not the city.

Backing up right now? I answer 24/7 in Libby, Troy and about 60 miles around.

Need it cleared? That's what my sewer line cleaning in Libby is for.

What the city says

The City of Libby wastewater page says property owners are responsible for the sewer line from the city main in the street to the point of use. Work in the street needs a permit from the city.

What that means for you

  • A clog anywhere in that line is yours to fix
  • Roots from your trees, or your neighbor's, are your problem in your line
  • Older lines are more likely to crack and let roots in

What I do

I clear the line with my jetter and show you on camera what's down there. If it needs digging, I know contractors I can call, and you decide.

Living in Troy, or not sure where your line ends?

No need to call the town. I can find where your line meets the main with my camera and tell you which part is yours.

Common questions

Does the city fix my sewer line?

Not the part between the street main and your house. That one is yours.

Do I need a permit?

For digging in the street, yes. For cleaning the line, no.
